Help with your Access to Work application, sorted.
Access to Work asks how your condition affects your work and what support you need. Tell us about your job in a short guided conversation, and we prepare clear, truthful answers in the order the application asks, ready to paste in or read out on the phone.
- For people in paid work, or starting a job soon
- Your daily tasks, where work gets hard, travel to work, what's been tried and what would help
- Typed answers in application order, as a Word document
- One-off fee from £49. No hourly fees.
Your words only — you approve every word before you send.
We only use what you tell us. You see each answer next to what you said, add detail where it's thin, and approve every one. Nothing is sent by us.
How it works
- Choose your service and pay. Secure card payment.
- Answer simple questions about your work. Your job and daily tasks, where it gets hard, getting to work, meetings and focus, what you've tried, and what would help. Short replies are fine.
- Check the timing. Tell us when you started (or will start) your job and we show why applying early can matter.
- We prepare your answers. In the order the application asks, using only what you told us. A strength check points out where a real example or "how often" would help.
- You approve every word, then apply. Paste the answers into the online application, or read them out on the phone.
Why timing can matter: if you've worked in your job for more than 6 weeks when you apply, your employer may be asked to share the cost of special equipment or changes to the workplace. Applying within 6 weeks of starting avoids that. This doesn't apply to support workers, travel or self-employed people. You can apply up to 12 weeks before you start. Common questions
Who can get Access to Work?
GOV.UK says you need a disability or health condition (physical or mental) that means you need support to do your job or get to and from work, be 16 or over, be in paid work or about to start or return to it, and live and work in England, Scotland or Wales. You don't need a diagnosis. Check the full rules on GOV.UK.
What can Access to Work pay for?
Practical support such as equipment and software, a support worker, help with travel if you can't use public transport, and changes to the workplace. It doesn't pay for reasonable adjustments your employer should make, it doesn't affect your other benefits, and you don't pay it back.
I'm self-employed. Can you help?
Yes. Choose "self-employed" at the timing step. GOV.UK says self-employed people need a turnover of at least £6,500 a year.
What if I'm turned down?
GOV.UK says you can call the helpline and ask for the decision to be reconsidered. The Complete Pack includes notes and a short script for that call.
Can you help with a problem with my employer?
No. We only help you describe your support needs for an Access to Work application. For workplace disputes, contact Acas or Citizens Advice.
Will you tell me what I'll get?
No. We help you describe your situation clearly and truthfully. Access to Work decides.
Is a person involved?
No. Your answers are drafted by our system from what you tell us. You review and approve everything.
Are you part of DWP?
No. FormSorted is an independent service, not affiliated with DWP, Access to Work or GOV.UK.
What happens to my health information?
We use it only to prepare your answers, with your explicit consent, and delete it after 90 days or sooner if you ask. See the privacy notice.
